Residents gradually transition to a more self-reliant lifestyle while receiving guidance when needed. Felicity House was established in 1974 by a group of concerned citizens at a time when there were only a handful of alcohol recovery facilities in the entire nation, and almost none offering help exclusively to women. It remains one of the few affordable women’s recovery homes in West Los Angeles. When you’re constantly drinking, you become numb to your emotions.

Sober Relationship Blueprint: Dating, Intimacy and Love Connections in Sobriety

Halfway homes are generally more structured than sober living homes and provide less support for those in recovery from addiction. Founded in 1975, Women for Sobriety (WFS) is the first peer-support program tailored specifically for women overcoming substance use disorders (SUDs). With both regional and online meetings, the New Life Program provides supportive, empowering, secular, and life-affirming principles that address the unique needs and challenges of women in recovery. Groups and discussion forums provide mutual support online.

The Role of Peer Support and Community in Sober Living Houses

  • Many of these homes are trauma-informed and will accommodate their services to your circumstances.
  • Typically, the cost is about the same as living in a modest apartment or home.
  • Beyond just avoiding the physical toxicity that a night of drinking can have on a body, living as a sober woman will also dramatically improve the quality and consistency of your sleep.
  • Women in recovery should consider accessing a comprehensive addiction treatment program before entering a sober living home.

When you’re a sober woman, you can make appointments and keep them. Your life becomes more predictable by choice, and you can honor your commitments. When it comes to the dreams and aspirations you’ve had for so long, now you have the self-discipline to achieve them. Being a sober woman leaves you feeling fulfilled, centered, and in control. Addiction causes you to lose control of all aspects of your life.
